Project H.O.O.D. Starts Sixth Construction Certification Class

Project H.O.O.D.’s sixth construction cohort started on October 8, 2021, with 13 students. A major part of our mission is to help others obtain destiny and to free them from poverty and violence. And this certified construction training class has become a flagship program for Project H.O.O.D.

With a certification in construction, there is no limit to how far one wants to take their career. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, construction is in high demand in Cook County with over 12,000 contractors employing over 62,000 people. Construction, like other industrial sectors, is suffering from a huge skills gap problem.

In 2019, Project H.O.O.D. partnered with the Illinois Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC-IL) to offer an alternative career path for at-risk individuals and for those suffering from unemployment.

The instructional program trains students in CORE and Carpentry 1 in a twelve-week course. ABC-IL provides technical education while the students also receive employment coaching and financial services to help manage their new careers.

Once the student successfully completes the course, Chicagoland area contractors conduct interviews for immediate job placement.

Project H.O.O.D. is happy to offer this training for people who want to take care of themselves and their families. We thank ABC-IL, the Reed Foundation, and TrammelCrow Company for sponsoring this program. We also thank Manhattan Mechanical Services and other contractors who hire Project H.O.O.D. students.

Good luck to our October class!
