A vision to restore HOPE on the South Side of Chicago
The plan for a new Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center is driven by the needs of the communities we serve. In January 2021, Project H.O.O.D. commissioned a community development plan to investigate the feasibility of the development and construction of a new state-of-the-art community center in the historic Woodlawn Community of Chicago. It identified the goals, needs, opportunities, and constraints of a multi-generation center. An assessment of Project H.O.O.D.’s existing assets, programs, and potential partnerships was also evaluated along with funding strategies, community center trends, and cost estimates. At the conclusion, it was determined that a major investment in infrastructure was required to expand and scale our programmatic services to address the growing demands and restore hope on the Southside.

Project H.O.O.D. has taken on this important initiative by launching a capital campaign to build this much-needed facility. We have enlisted the services of a talented architect, and construction management team to design a community center that will include a vocational school, entrepreneurial and digital technology center, gymnasium, fitness center, swimming pool, theater, health and wellness center, safe social gathering spaces and more.
The center is an investment in people and communities. It's the cornerstone of our model for innovation and transformation on the Southside, dedicated to reversing the culture of crime, high unemployment, and hopelessness that plague our communities.
