Corey Brooks to Officiate Double Funeral for Mom, Son Gunned Down in Chicago at Same Location
Pastor Brooks is coming down from rooftop vigil to hold double funeral
In what seems to be a moment of deja vu, Pastor Corey Brooks is being called off the roof to officiate a double funeral. In January 2012, Brooks came down from the roof to officiate two funerals of teenagers killed in separate incidents. This time, it is a double funeral service for 14-year-old Kevin Tinker killed in Roseland and his mother Delisa Tucker shot and killed while visiting his memorial.
The murders of this son and his mother have galvanized the people in the Roseland community and around the city and Chicago Police are asking for the public’s help to catch the killers. Officiating the double funeral comes 14 days after Pastor Brooks spent his inaugural campout on November 20th. In 2012, the funerals for the two teens were two months into his campout.
“We the public can’t believe this has happened,” said Brooks. “But, we, the community, see these killings almost every day. And, I believe we can put an end to it.”
Pastor Corey Brooks is in the initial weeks of his 100 Day Campout Against Gun Violence and is coming down from the roof to officiate the service. He will return to the rooftop campout immediately after the double funeral. The goal is to raise $35million to build a Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center to increase Project H.O.O.D.’s impact and to continue construction training, violence prevention, entrepreneur resources, and job training.
These senseless killings are a testament that our community can no longer wait.
Not only do the community, parents, and children want the violence to end, business leaders in Chicago also want safety in city neighborhoods. Many company leaders are taking the CEO Challenge to aid Pastor Brooks.
