Eight Years Ago
Our Past
On November 20, 2012, Pastor Corey B. Brooks slept on the roof of an abandoned motel for 94 days to bring attention to gun violence on the south side of Chicago.
Known from then on as the "Rooftop Pastor," Corey Brooks started Project H.O.O.D. with the vision of "ending violence and building communities, one neighborhood at a time."
Brooks raised enough money to tear down the motel and Project H.O.O.D. has continued it’s mission to empower people with the guidance, information and tools necessary to become peacemakers, problem solvers, leaders and entrepreneurs in their communities.
Our Future
Project H.O.O.D. is building a state-of-the-art community center on the land where the motel once stood. The Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center will allow Project H.O.O.D. to serve even more disadvantaged residents in the city of Chicago.
